A Lithium UPS is an Uninterruptible Power Supply that utilizes lithium-ion batteries instead of the conventional lead-acid batteries. Its primary function is to provide continuous power to critical loads during main power failures, ensuring that devices like servers, medical equipment, and communication systems remain operational. How Does It Work?
Similar to any UPS, a lithium UPS has a battery bank that stores energy. When the main power source fails, the UPS switches to battery power almost instantly, typically within milliseconds, to ensure no interruption in power supply. The battery bank consists of lithium-ion cells, which are managed by a Battery Management System (BMS). The BMS monitors and controls the batteries, ensuring safe operation by managing parameters like temperature, voltage, and current to prevent overcharging, overheating, or deep discharge. This system is crucial for maintaining the longevity and safety of the lithium-ion batteries, which are more sensitive than lead-acid batteries.
